 PI-14 Beyond the Inca Marvel: The Jungle 

Journey through one of Peru's most important wildlife refuges. Visit the breath catching Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, the beautiful Sacred Valley of the Incas, the historical landmarks of Cusco and Lima.

Day 1        Lima

Arrive in Lima. Greet and meet at Lima Airport and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Overnight.

Day 2        Lima-Puerto Maldonado-Tambopata (B.L.D)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport to board flight to Puerto Maldonado. Flight takes approximately 2 hours (with a brief stop made in Cusco). Meet and greet by the jungle lodge staff at Puerto Maldonado's airport and transfer to the Tambopata River wharf. Motor boat journey to the lodge. Box lunch will be served on the way. Welcome drink upon arrival. Familiarization walk to the surrounding forest in the afternoon. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 3        Tambopata (B.L.D)

Breakfast at the lodge. Hike on jungle trail and/or paddle dugout canoe to oxbow lake. Observe the diverse wildlife of the reserve (saddleback tamarins, capuchins, agoutis, capybaras, giant river otters as well as countless species of birds including trogons, herons, toucans, egrets, hoatzins, etc.). Lunch. You can continue hiking near the lodge in the afternoon or if you prefer you can swim in the river or just rest on a nice hammock and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the forest. Thrilling cayman spotting in the evening. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 4        Tambopata-Puerto Maldonado-Cusco (B)

Breakfast at the lodge. Return to Tambopata by motorboat. Transfer to the airport to board the flight to Cusco. Flight takes approximately 50 min. Transfer to the hotel of your choice in Cusco. City tour in the afternoon: Cusco's historical center which includes the Main Square, the Cathedral, the Church of Santo Domingo/Koricancha Temple and the surrounding archaeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay. Overnight.

Day 5        Cusco-Sacred Valley (B.L)

Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas: The village of Pisac and its marketplace* and ancient Ollantaytambo village and its archaeological site. Buffet lunch at a countryside restaurant on the way. Transfer to the hotel of your choice in Sacred Valley. Overnight.

Day 6        Sacred Valley-Machu Picchu-Cusco (B.L)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the train station to board Backpacker Service** train to Machu Picchu village (Aguas Calientes). Ride takes approximately 4 hours. Bus ride from the village to the Machu Picchu citadel. Guided tour in the spectacular Inca citadel surrounded by high mountains and jungle vegetation. Return to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon where you will wait for the train to Cusco. Upon arriving to Cusco you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 7        Cusco-Lima (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport to board return flight to Lima. Flight takes approximately 80 minutes. Transfer to your hotel in Lima. City tour in the afternoon to visit Lima's most important ancient, colonial and modern landmarks. Overnight.

 

Day 8  Lima (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport to board your international return flight.

*   The Pisac Market is available on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. The Chinchero Market on Sunday.
